Crabtree sits, remains involved at 49ers' practice

SAN JOSE -- Receiver Michael Crabtree, nursing discomfort in his surgically repaired left foot, sat out most of the on-field portion of the 49ers' offensive practice session on Monday.Crabtree attended the Alex Smith-led classroom session Monday morning at San Jose State. He joined his teammates on the field at Spartan Stadium, and caught some warmup passes from the team's three quarterbacks.But Crabtree did not run any full-speed pass routes. Crabtree aggravated his left foot on June 6, on the first day of a four-day period in which 49ers offensive players met for classroom and on-field work. Crabtree underwent surgery to repair a stress fracture during the 2009 offseason. Two months later, the 49ers selected him with the No. 10 overall draft pick.
Crabtree attended all four days of playbook study earlier this month during the first get-together of 49ers players, known as "Camp Alex." However, Crabtree left when the 49ers players went to the practice field.On Monday, Crabtree joined his teammates and paid close attention during the 90-minute session, which is designed to familiarize the players with the offensive playbook.The day began with the players watching film cut-ups from West Coast offenses, including the 49ers during the Steve Young era. The practice session was filmed and will be used during the morning meetings as a teaching tool.
