Cedric Thornton reinstated to 49ers' roster after retiring last season

Veteran defensive lineman Cedric Thorton was reinstated Monday off the NFL’s reserve/retired list and took part in the first day of the 49ers’ offseason program.

Thornton originally signed with the 49ers in July 2018. He announced his retirement from the NFL less than a month later.

Thornton, 30, is a seven-year NFL veteran who appeared in 98 games during his career.

After breaking into the league with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2011 to ’15, Thornton moved on to the Dallas Cowboys in 2016 and the Buffalo Bills in 2017. He recorded 220 tackles and 7.5 sacks in his career.

Also on the first day of the 49ers’ offseason program, defensive back Greg Mabin signed his one-year, $645,000 contract as an exclusive rights free agent.
