SANTA CLARA -- Running back Carlos Hyde did not participate in 49ers practice on Tuesday, as he walked out to the practice field with his right arm in a sling.
He sustained a shoulder injury during the third quarter of the 49ers' 45-16 loss in Buffalo on Sunday. Hyde finished the game with 52 rushing yards on 14 attempts.
Hyde sustained a shoulder injury in the third quarter of the game, and was on the sideline for a crucial fourth-and-1 play, on which backup running back Mike Davis got stuffed. The 49ers were trailing 17-13 at the time of the pivotal play.

Hyde leads the 49ers with 429 yards and six touchdowns rushing on 109 carries. Shaun Draughn and Davis have averaged just 2.1 and 1.8 yards, respectively behind Hyde. On Sunday, Davis replaced Draughn as the No. 2 running back behind Hyde.
"Mike has just done a nice job and I think Shaun had some opportunities in the Arizona game, but now Mike has done some things in practice," 49ers coach Chip Kelly said on Monday. "And the other guy is DuJuan (Harris) that we’ve talked about do we get him up on game day also because he’s another guy that’s shown some things from a practice standpoint to try to really find out who that No. 2 guy is behind Carlos."
Davis and Draughn are the only other running backs on the 49ers' 53-man roster. Harris and rookie Kelvin Taylor are on the 10-player practice squad.
Hyde missed two games as a rookie due to an ankle injury. He was out for the final nine games last season with a foot injury that landed him on injured reserve.
