Carlisle steps up against Suh

Perhaps lost in the morass of the Raiders' kick-to-the-grill 28-27 loss to Detroit on Sunday was the job Oakland right guard Cooper Carlisle did on Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.Carlisle, with some help from center Samson Satele, limited the fearsome Suh to one tackle and one assist. And despite Carson Palmer throwing 40 passes, Suh was held without a sack."Pretty good," Carlisle said, when asked how he did against Suh. "He's obviously a good player. He's going to be a good player for a long time, but there's always stuff you can improve (upon)."But overall, I guess it was all right."The Raiders ran for 132 yards on the Lions defense and Palmer threw for 367 yards without an interception. Still, despite gouging Suh and the Lions defense for 477 total yards of offense, the Raiders were just as invisible on third down as Suh was throughout the first 59 minutes of the game in going one-of-nine on third-down conversions.Suh, who was coming off a two-game suspension for stomping Green Bay's Evan Dietrich-Smith on Thanksgiving, swapped sides a few times and went head up against rookie left guard Stefen Wisniewski. But most of Suh's day was spent tangling with Carlisle.Satele got it from both sides."Us three, me and the two guards, had to be stout in the middle," Satele said. "I think we did a great jobCoop did a good job, and if (Suh) comes in, then I hit him."No one, though, could keep Suh from making a play and getting a thumb on Sebastian Janikowski's game-winning 65-yard attempt as time ran out.
