SANTA CLARA – It had been four years since Reggie Bush last returned a punt in a regular-season game, but 49ers special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey does not seemed concerned.
Bush handled one punt for nine yards in the 49ers’ 20-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night. The previous time he returned a punt was in 2011, when he averaged 8.7 yards on six returns for the Miami Dolphins.

Bush replaced Jarryd Hayne in that capacity, and it appears he will remain in that role as long as he remains healthy.

“I feel very comfortable with him,” McGaughey said. “As long as Reggie feels comfortable, I feel comfortable and he feels really comfortable doing it. We’ve just got to do a better job of sustaining our blocks and giving him a little room to work. But, yeah, I feel real comfortable with him.”
Bush has a 7.9 yard career average with four touchdowns on punt returns. He had 20 or more returns with the New Orleans Saints in 2006, as a rookie, 2008 and ’09.
