After the 49ers' blowout win in his first NFL start Thursday night, quarterback Nick Mullens received an important phone call.
While he was visiting NFL Network's set, the Southern Miss product received a call from a fellow Golden Eagle QB who wore No. 4 in the NFL: Brett Favre.
"What a great start," Favre said. "I couldn't be more proud for ya. I'm not surprised at your success, and I wish you the best. You know that."

In his first NFL game, Mullens completed 16 of 22 passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns. He became the first QB in 49ers history to throw three TD passes in their first start, and the strong debut came as no surprise to Favre.
"He did that at Southern Miss," Favre said. "He handled himself with tremendous class. He's a very bright football mind. All he needed, honestly, was an opportunity, and he got it and he made the most of it. So, I'm not surprised one bit."
Mullens also bested Favre's first NFL start, which came in his fifth appearance. He completed 14 of 19 passes for 210 yards and two touchdowns.
Only 297 more starts for Mullens to match Favre on the NFL's all-time list.
