Arik Armstead status in doubt for 49ers matchup in the Big Easy

BRADENTON, Fla. — After a stand out first 12 games of the season, Arik Armstead’s status for the 49ers’ match up in the Superdome is in doubt.

Armstead, who has been playing the best football of his career left practice early on Thursday after the team’s walkthrough at IMG academy. The fifth year defensive lineman has already tallied 10 sacks, 13 quarterback hits, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in the team’s 12 games.

If Armstead is not able to suit up in New Orleans, the 49ers defense could look for Solomon Thomas or Jeremiah Valoaga to take on more reps. Armstead played 94-percent of all defensive snaps facing the Ravens leading all defensive lineman.

Dee Ford who returned to practice this week, will also take on some of the work load. But the staff will be careful working the veteran pass rusher back into the mix as they have with all players returning from injury.
