The NFL announced that 49ers quarterback Alex Smith was named the Offensive Player of the Week in the NFC for Week 8 after leading San Francisco to a Monday night win in Arizona by going 18-of-19 with 232 yards and three touchdowns.

The Offensive Player of the Week award is the first of Smith's career.Smith, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2005, is enjoying the best season of his career. He has completed 69.4 of his passes for 1,659 yards, 12 touchdowns and five interceptions. He owns a 102.1 passer rating for Jim Harbaugh's 6-2 49ers.
