Editor’s note: The voice of the 49ers, Greg Papa, takes on NBC Sports Bay Area 49ers Insider Matt Maiocco in the 49ers Ultimate Draft. They both chose a stacked squad full of legends from the past and your favorite players from today. Our team of experts will dissect and analyze the merits of each team until a winner is crowned.
When we unveiled the 49ers Ultimate Draft on Monday morning, insider Matt Maiocco and play-by-play man Greg Papa showed off their knowledge of the franchise's history. Both teams are filled with all-time greats and numerous Hall of Famers.
But every draft comes with snubs, and this one wasn't any different.

Rules didn't help Maiocco or Papa, though. For a player to be selected, he had to have been with the 49ers for five or more seasons or currently be on the roster. There also was a wild card that threw the experience rule out the window.
With that being said, here are a handful of players who were snubbed from Maiocco and Papa's teams.
Vernon Davis, TE
Davis might have been the biggest snub of all on offense. General manager John Lynch made a celebrity pick and took George Kittle for Team Maiocco, so that's a valid excuse. Still, Brent Jones being picked over Davis is a questionable call.
San Francisco 49ers
Find the latest San Francisco 49ers news, highlights, analysis and more with NBC Sports Bay Area and California.
Here's a look at Davis vs. Jones over their 49ers careers.
Davis (9.5 seasons): 139 games, 441 receptions, 5,640 yards, 55 touchdowns
Jones (11 seasons): 143 games, 417 receptions, 5,195 yards, 33 touchdowns
Jones (four) did have two more Pro Bowl appearances than Davis (two) and was a three-time Super Bowl winner. But Davis is the 49ers' all-time leader in receptions and yards for tight ends, ranks sixth among all positions for receiving yards in franchise history and fourth in touchdowns.
Davis went to my team with the No. 24 overall pick in mine and Josh Schrock's redraft.
Justin Smith, DL
How was Smith left off these teams? Seriously, how?
The "Cowboy" spent his final seven seasons in San Francisco and racked up 43.5 sacks, 10 forced fumbles, 64 tackles for loss and 109 QB hits. Smith put the fear in the eyes of opposing teams.
Imagine him on today's team. He would do exactly what he did for Aldon Smith and have Nick Bosa feast on quarterbacks. Every great defensive line needs a Justin Smith. He wound up on Team Schrock with the No. 7 overall pick.

Garrison Hearst, RB
Don't forget about this man. Hearst deserves your attention. I'd argue after Roger Craig and Frank Gore -- and maybe even before -- he should have been the next back taken off the board.
Hearst is one of the biggest "What Ifs" in 49ers history. He sustained a devastating injury on his first carry of the 1998 playoffs. Hearst then missed the next two seasons to avascular necrosis.
After two years away from the field, Hearst was named Comeback Player of the Year in 2001 when he rushed for 1,206 yards. Before his injury in the 1998 playoffs, Hearst rushed for 1,570 yards in the regular season and led the NFL with an average of 5.1 yards per carry.
Before his injury, these are the kind of runs Hearst was capable of.
Despite only playing five seasons for the 49ers, Hearst still has the fifth-most rushing yards in franchise history at 5,535 and his 75.8 rushing yards per game are the most all-time for the 49ers. Hearst was taken No. 19 overall by Team Schrock.
Tim McDonald, S
McDonald finished off his career in San Francisco and recorded 20 interceptions over seven seasons with the 49ers. He also made three straight Pro Bowls to start off his 49ers career.
When the 49ers won the Super Bowl in the 1994 season, McDonald recorded 17 solo tackles in three playoff games. He somehow wasn't taken in the original draft or our redraft.

Wild card: Aldon Smith, DE/OLB
Speaking of "What Ifs," Smith is one of the biggest in any sport ... ever.
Look at this absurdity. Smith recorded 33.5 sacks through his first two seasons. That's 32 games. And then trouble came.
Smith has dealt with a litany of off-field issues. On the field, however, he was dominant for the 49ers. He wound up playing only 50 games for the red and gold and still had 44 sacks. On top of that, Smith added six forced fumbles, 46 tackles for loss and 81 QB hits.
Smith still has the sixth-most sacks ever as a 49er.
The Dallas Cowboys signed Smith to a one-year contract on April. He hasn't played in the NFL since 2015. As an all-time talented 49er, though, he landed with Team Schrock at pick No. 23.
Honorable Mentions
Here are the remaining players who were selected in our redraft after being snubbed by Maiocco and Papa: Michael Crabtree, Mike McGlinchey, Ahmad Brooks, Bill Romanowski, Richard Sherman, Phil Dawson, Joe Perry, Mike Iupati, Ken Norton Jr. and Dashon Goldson.
