It was not immediately known what the 49ers received in return for Acker, who started 13 games last season. Acker was a sixth-round draft pick in 2014. He spent his rookie season on injured reserve with a foot injury before winning the staring job at the beginning of last season.
But Acker tumbled down the 49ers’ depth chart during the offseason and training camp.
Tramaine Brock and Jimmie Ward are the presumptive starters. Rookies Rashard Robinson and Will Redmond, along with Keith Reaser and Dontae Johnson, moved ahead of Acker on the depth chart.
The Houston Chronicle was first to report the 49ers’ trade of Acker to Kansas City.
