49ers snap count: Victor Bolden receives large workload vs. Cardinals

The 49ers activated Victor Bolden from a four-game suspension Saturday. One day later, he played the second-most number of snaps among the team’s wide receivers.

Marquise Goodwin and Dante Pettis were inactive for the 49ers’ 28-18 loss to the Arizona Cardinals because of injuries. Rookie Richie James got his first NFL start and played 24 snaps.

Bolden, who made the 49ers' roster as a rookie after going undrafted in 2017, played 57 of the 49ers’ 98 snaps Sunday. Veteran receiver Pierre Garçon, who left the game in the first half with a shoulder injury, played a team-high 62 snaps among the team’s wideouts.

Garçon and Bolden outpaced Trent Taylor (50 snaps) and Kendrick Bourne (42).

Bolden and James recorded their first NFL receptions Sunday. Bolden was targeted four times and caught one throw from C.J. Beathard for 10 yards, while James made a 7-yard reception on the only pass thrown his way.

Defensive lineman Ryan Delaire made his 49ers debut Sunday and played 10 snaps as an outside pass rusher as part of the team’s nickel package. Delaire was promoted as a reward for his work during the week on the practice squad.

“It motivates you to work harder,” Delaire said of the team’s decision to have spots won and lost during the week in practices. “I was trying to give them a reason. I’m just trying to get adjusted. I was thrown into a little bit, so I’m still learning the plays and everything.”

Delaire didn't register a pressure on his seven pass-rush snaps, according to Pro Football Focus.

DeForest Buckner had a team-high five pressures, consisting of two hits and three hurries. But Solomon Thomas, the No. 3 overall pick of the 2017 draft, did not have a pressure on 17 pass plays, according to PFF.

Here are some other 49ers metrics from PFF:

-- Right tackle Mike McGlinchey and right guard Mike Person had strong days. On 59 plays of pass protection, Person was perfect, while McGlinchey allowed one quarterback pressure.

-- Cornerback Richard Sherman did not allow any completions on two targets. On the season, Sherman has allowed just one catch on eight targets.

-- The 49ers had a season-low three missed tackles. Cleveland and Buffalo now have more missed tackles than the 49ers this season.

-- Beathard averaged 12.9 yards per pass attempt when his target was behind the line of scrimmage. He averaged just 5.8 yards on his pass attempts beyond the line of scrimmage.
