The 49ers announced Tuesday the team has signed offensive lineman Ben Garland to a one-year deal.

The 31-year-old spent the last three seasons with the Falcons and made seven starts with the team. He opted not to re-sign with Atlanta and became a free agent instead.

Upon leaving, he sent out a classy tweet bidding farewell to the team he loved playing for:

Garland was the Falcons' nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2017 and was awarded the NFL's Salute to Service Award on Jan. 30 prior to the Super Bowl in Atlanta. The award is a year-round effort to honor service members, veterans, and their families.
