The 49ers acquired offensive tackle Shon Coleman before the start of the 2018 season in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.
After spending his first season with the club inactive and last year going on injured reserve with a fractured lower leg and dislocated right ankle, Coleman might have a chance to be a big contributor in 2020.
The 49ers on Monday signed Coleman to a one-year contract extension to prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year on Wednesday.

After Coleman (6-foot-5, 310 pounds) was sidelined for the season, rookie Justin Skule and first-year player Daniel Brunskill handled the backup duties behind 49ers starting tackles Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey.
Although general manager John Lynch said last month at the NFL Scouting Combine that he believes Staley will return for another season, there is no guarantee he will be back for a 14th year after battling a number of injuries and ailments throughout 2019.
