The 49ers will open the 2019 regular season with a cross-country trip to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a league source told NBC Sports Bay Area on Wednesday.

After two road games to open the season, the 49ers will play their home opener at Levi’s Stadium against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 22, the source said. Additionally, the 49ers will host the Packers on Sun. Nov. 24, a source told NBC Sports Bay Area's Jennifer Lee Chan.

It also looks like the 49ers will get three primetime games.

The remaining dates for the 49ers' regular-season schedule were not immediately known.

The NFL will announce the entire regular-season schedule on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The 49ers’ opponents for the upcoming season have been set since the end of last season.

The 49ers will play non-division home games against Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Green Bay, Carolina and Atlanta. All indications are the game against the Browns is a strong candidate to be a prime-time showing. The 49ers’ non-division road games are at Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Washington, Cincinnati and Baltimore.

The 49ers’ opener on Sept. 8 will mark the second consecutive year the club will travel to face the Buccaneers. Former Arizona coach Bruce Arians is in his first season as Tampa Bay’s coach. Last year’s game against the Buccaneers marked the low point of the season for the 49ers.

The night before their 27-9 loss, linebacker Reuben Foster was arrested at the team hotel after an alleged incident with his on-again, off-again girlfriend. Foster spent the night in jail, and the 49ers announced their release of him early in the morning before the game.

The 49ers replaced Foster this offseason with free-agent acquisition Kwon Alexander, who played his first four NFL seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Alexander missed the final 10 games of last season with a torn ACL. It is unclear whether Alexander will be fully recovered and available to play in Week 1 against his former team.
