SANTA CLARA — Quarterback C.J. Beathard is active but will serve as a back-up in Thursday's game against the Raiders. Wide receiver Trent Taylor is inactive along with linebacker Reuben Foster and cornerbacks Jaquiski Tartt and Antone Exum Jr.
The biggest news of the day is that quarterback Nick Mullens will make his first NFL start. If this was a regular week and the 49ers were playing on Sunday, Beathard would likely be able to start. He was unable to grip a football as a result of a wrist injury on Tuesday but was cleared to suit up and play just hours prior to the game.
Foster left the game in Arizona with a hamstring injury and has been ruled out. Veteran Malcolm Smith will start at the weak side linebacker position along side of rookie Fred Warner in Foster's place.

SIGN UP HERE Tartt and Exum were both ruled out for the game. Jimmie Ward will play his second game at free safety. Tyvis Powell will step in at safety for the injured players as well.
The secondary will have the much needed presence of Richard Sherman. He was questionable during the short week with the calf/heel injury that he has been battling most of the season.
The offensive line has been battling injures most of the season but look to have their starters available for the game. Center Weston Richburg, tackle Joe Staley and guard Mike Person are all active.
With Taylor out, receiver Richie James will suit up along with Kendrick Bourne, Dante Pettis, Marquise Goodwin and Pierre Garcon.
