The 49ers on Tuesday added a linebacker and a safety to replace Reuben Foster and Jimmie Ward on the team’s 53-man roster.
The 49ers cut Reuben Foster on Monday after he was arrested on Saturday at the team hotel in Tampa, Florida, for suspicion of domestic violence.
Ward sustained a fractured left forearm and was placed on season-ending injured reserve. It is the fourth time in Ward’s five NFL seasons that he ended the season on injured reserve.

SIGN UP HERE The 49ers promoted linebacker James Onwualu from the practice squad and claimed defensive back Godwin Igwebuike off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to fill the two roster spots.
The 49ers on Monday worked out three linebackers with NFL experience but decided to promote Onwualu from the practice squad. Former 49ers linebacker Michael Wilhoite worked out, along with Thurston Armbrister (Jaguars, Lions) and Tyrell Adams (Raiders, Texans).
The 49ers signed Adams and wide receiver Max McCaffrey to the practice squad.
McCaffrey signed with the 49ers last season and was waived in August with an injury designation. He underwent surgery on his left foot after being sidelined for the 49ers’ first three preseason games with the injury.

Igwebuike (6-0, 212) originally signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted rookie free agent from Northwestern. He was promoted to the Buccaneers' active roster from the practice squad earlier this month. He was inactive for the game Sunday against the 49ers.
Onwualu (6-1, 235) originally entered the NFL after signing with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2017 as an undrafted rookie from Notre Dame. He signed with the 49ers’ practice squad on Nov. 19.
