MIAMI, Fla. -- 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa was named 2019 Defensive Rookie of the Year at the NFL Honors award show Saturday night,

The No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft has been accumulating a bevy awards after putting up an impressive rookie season, which included nine sacks, 25 quarterback hits, one interception, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries.

Bosa’s performance was recognized throughout the season, garnering him two nods as Defensive Player of Week (Weeks 5 and 8) and the NFC Defensive Player of the Month in October.

Bosa’s speed, power and technique has been recognized across the league as very polished for a rookie. He has been a significant element in the transformation of the 49ers' defense that struggled notably in 2018.

The rookie from Ohio State believes that he isn’t close to reaching his ceiling after only one season in the league. Known as a student of the game by his teammates, Bosa plans on only getting better.

“I think there’s a lot more,” Bosa said on Thursday. “I think I’ve improved a lot this year and if I can make the same improvements I’ve made from my junior season at Ohio State to now, if I could repeat that next year, then yeah, there’s going to be some pretty big improvements.”

It sounds like this is just the start of what could be a very accomplished career for the 49ers' first-round draft pick.
