In the span of five weeks, Kliff Kingsbury has gone from head coach at Texas Tech to offensive coordinator at USC to head coach with the Arizona Cardinals.

It's not the most conventional path to becoming an NFL head coach, but it worked for Kingsbury.

The 49ers NFC West rival Cardinals announced on Tuesday that they had hired Kingsbury as their new coach. Arizona fired Steve Wilks after just one season, where they went 3-13. They'll be picking No. 1 overall in the NFL draft, one slot ahead of San Francisco.

During his tenure at Texas Tech, Kingsbury worked with now Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes and helped turn the quarterback into one of the most prolific passers in NCAA history.

There is now quite the discrepancy in ages among the NFC West coaches. Well really, one of these is not like the other.

During his six years at Texas Tech, Kingsbury compiled a 35-40 record.
