49ers-Lions injury report: Adrian Colbert sits out practice with hamstring issue

Share

SANTA CLARA -- Safety Adrian Colbert missed his second day of practice in a row with a hamstring injury, placing his availability for the 49ers’ game Sunday against the Detroit Lions in question.

If Colbert is unable to play in the home opener, the 49ers could move Jimmie Ward back to free safety or go with rookie D.J. Reed, who worked at free safety since the beginning of training camp.

Wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, who has a deep thigh bruise, guards Mike Person (foot strain) and Joshua Garnett (dislocated toe), and linebacker Malcolm Smith (hamstring) sat out Thursday’s practice, too.

Undrafted rookie guard Najee Toran, Erik Magnuson, who returned to limited practice after a hamstring injury, or recent veteran pickup Matt Tobin could get the call at guard.

Elijah Lee is expected to start at linebacker. Smith has been out since the first preseason game. Brock Coyle was placed on injured reserve with a back injury, and Reuben Foster will serve the second game of a two-game suspension.
