SANTA CLARA -- Cornerback Kenneth Acker, who started the first eight games of the season, is now in the NFL’s concussion protocol after complaining about symptoms on Tuesday, 49ers coach Jim Tomsula said.
After the 49ers’ 27-6 loss to the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, Acker was listed on the team's injury report due to his ribs and neck. But he was re-evaluated on Tuesday, at which point he was placed into the concussion protocol.
“He wasn’t feeling well yesterday, so they did a concussion check on him and he’s working through that,” Tomsula said.

Dontae Johnson and Keith Reaser would be the likely candidates to start in place of Acker if he does not receive clearance for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons.
Also, tight end Garrett Celek, who was diagnosed with a concussion in St. Louis, needs to make it through the protocol in order to receive medical clearance to play on Sunday.
The 49ers had three players who underwent surgeries on Tuesday, Tomsula confirmed. Running back Reggie Bush underwent knee surgery and was placed on injured reserve. Defensive back L.J. McCray (knee) and running back Mike Davis (hand) also underwent surgery. No roster move has been made with those players, yet.
Running back Carlos Hyde (foot) and wide receiver Anquan Boldin (hamstring) will not practice on Wednesday, Tomsula said. Both players were inactive for the 49ers’ game Sunday against the Rams.

Linebacker NaVorro Bowman will also sit out practice. He has not practiced on a Wednesday this season.
Center Daniel Kilgore remains on the physically-unable-to-perform list after sustaining a fractured lower leg on Oct. 19 of last season against the Denver Broncos. Tomsula gave no timetable on when Kilgore could be cleared to practice.
