49ers-Giants inactives: No real surprises for Monday Night Football

SANTA CLARA — There were no real surprises on the 49ers inactives list.

As expected, linebacker Reuben Foster, wide receiver Pierre Garcon and safety Jaquiski Tartt will not suit up Monday night against the Giants. The surprise came when the team waived safety Tyvis Powell just hours before kickoff. Powell played nearly every defensive snap facing the Raiders in Week 9.

With Tartt inactive for the second week in a row, this could only mean that Marcell Harris will get a chance to show what he is capable of. The rookie played only six defensive snaps facing the Raiders in his first career start.

Foster has not practiced or played since he suffered a hamstring injury in Week 8 facing the Cardinals. Malcolm Smith will get the start at the weakside linebacker position alongside of Fred Warner. Elijah Lee will also see time rotating into the mix.

With Garçon inactive, Trent Taylor looks to get reestablish his role as a reliable target on the offense. He took some reps at Garçon’s “Z” position during practice during the week. Kendrick Bourne and Dante Pettis will also see increased reps.
