49ers claim wide receiver off waivers

The 49ers claimed WR Tim Patrick off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens, the team announced on Monday afternoon.

In order to make room on the roster, the team has waived/injured WR BJ Johnson III.

Patrick (6-4, 212) originally signed with the Ravens as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 5, 2017, out the University of Utah. With the Utes, he appeared in 22 career games (14 starts), where he registered 61 receptions for 888 yards (14.6 average) and five touchdowns. As a senior in 2016, he led the team in receptions (45), receiving yards (711) and touchdown receptions (five), while finishing ninth in the Pac-12 in receiving yards per game (59.2) and sixth in yards per reception (15.8). Prior to Utah, he spent time at Grossmont College (El Cajon, CA), where he earned First-Team All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference honors in 2013 after recording 53 receptions for 964 yards and eight touchdowns.

A 23-year-old native of San Diego, CA, Patrick attended University City (San Diego, CA) High School.

Johnson III (6-1, 210) originally signed with the team as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 8, 2017, out of Georgia Southern University. During his five-year career with the Eagles (2012-16), he played in 44 games (35 starts) and registered 92 receptions for 1,377 yards and six touchdowns.

A 24-year-old native of Woodruff, SC, Johnson III attended Woodruff High School.
