NEW ORLEANS — The 49ers worst fears came true finding out starting center Weston Richburg will miss the remainder of the season with a torn patellar tendon.
Richburg was one of the biggest 49ers free agent signings of the 2018 offseason with him inking a 5-year $47.5 million contract. The center had a challenging first season with the team due to playing through a quadricep tendon injury that he sustained in Week 4.
Richburg had surgery to reattach the tendon to his kneecap as soon as the season was over in January and since his return he has been playing his best football since joining the 49ers. He has been lead blocker on several explosive plays including Richie James 57-yard catch and run facing the Cardinals in Week 11.
