INDIANAPOLIS – The 49ers carried over the fifth-most amount of unused salary-cap space to 2016, the NFLPA announced on Thursday.
The 49ers rolled over their entire cap surplus of $12,206,686, which is expected to provide the 49ers with approximately $50 million in salary cap room when the new league year opens on March 9.

SIGN UP HERE The 49ers have $112.329 million devoted to next year’s contracts, according to overthecap.com. The league’s salary cap is projected to be approximately $155 million per team.
The 49ers have finalized multi-year contract extensions with tight end Garrett Celek and defensive lineman Quinton Dial this week. Those contracts have yet to be factored into the 49ers' payroll.
The only teams to carry over more unused cap space from last year are Jacksonville ($32.77 million), Tennessee ($20.78 million), Cleveland ($20.73 million) and Oakland ($13.37 million).
Los Angeles, Denver and New Orleans were the only teams that chose not to carry over all of their unused cap space, according to the NFLPA. The Rams carried over $933,521 of their $2.178 million available; the Broncos carried over $3.3 million of their $3.567 million available; and the Saints carried over $1.4 million of the possible $1.442 million.
