49ers' Armstead, Buckner ‘have big plans' to dominate NFL

Not often do two college teammates in the same position group reunite in the NFL as first-round picks.

That's exactly what happened in San Francisco when the 49ers selected defensive linemen Arik Armstead and DeForest Buckner in back-to-back drafts.

And the two defenders couldn't be more excited for the opportunity, and plan to pick up where they left off.

"I feel like in college, we complemented each other very well," Armstead told the team's official website. "You couldn't focus on either one of us because you had either me or him on the other side. We have big plans playing together, trying to dominate people."

Armstead and Buckner each list on the team's website at 6-foot-7, with the latter being eight pounds heavier at 300 even.

While with the Ducks, they book-ended the defensive line and formed quite a chemistry.

"It's huge. Me and DeFo are real close friends," Armstead added. "We were roommates in college. When he got drafted, he thanked me for leaving because it would have never ended up this way. Everything happens for a reason.

"We used to talk about what would have happened if I stayed for my senior year and playing together for one more year. But now we get to play together for a long time, and it's going to be fun."

Armstead as a rookie in 2015 played all 16 games with no starts, recording 19 total tackles and 2.0 sacks. He had 87 total tackles, including 10.5 for loss and 4.0 sacks over three seasons at Oregon.

Buckner in his final season for the Ducks had a career year, registering 83 total tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss and a whopping 10.5 sacks. He also batted five passes and recovered a fumble.

"I think I'm in a unique situation that nobody else has been in. I'm comfortable with the new coaches," Buckner said. "Getting back out there and working with them has been extremely fun."

Armstead wears No. 91 for the 49ers, while Buckner will wear No. 99. The two could be favorites to start in Chip Kelly's first season as head coach of the 49ers, as he was the man that recruited the defensive linemen to Oregon.
