The 49ers have a defensive line full of former first-round draft picks. And through five games this season, Arik Armstead is enjoying his best season in Year 5.

Armstead, taken by the 49ers out of the University of Oregon with the No. 17 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, found himself on the Pro Football Focus Team of the Week after a dominant showing in San Francisco's 20-7 win Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

The 25-year-old Armstead recorded six tackles Sunday while also accounting for a half-sack, one quarterback hit and a fumble recovery. Three of his tackles ended in a defensive stop, and he also had three QB hurries.

Armstead had a 90.3 PFF grade in the 49ers' win, and now has an overall grade of 89.5 out of 100 through five games.

He has tackles -- four for loss -- 2 1/2 sacks, four QB hits, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery this season. The 49ers exercised Armstead's fifth-year option before last season, but now it will be quite the task to retain him long term.

“What Arik needs to do is keep on playing at that level and he’s going to make his life really easy because a lot of people are going to coveting him, along with us,” general manager John Lynch said late last month

For now, the 49ers have to focus on Armstead's present rather than his future. They couldn't be happier to watch his coming-out party, no matter how long he remains in the Bay Area.
