The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has impacted sports calendars around the world. Many events have been canceled or postponed, and horse racing is no exception.
With the Belmont Stakes run June 20, the Kentucky Derby is the next leg of the Triple Crown. Normally held on the first Saturday in May as the Triple Crown opener, it instead is scheduled for Sept. 5 at historic Churchill Downs Racetrack.
It will be the first time since 1945 that the event will be held outside of that standard date.

Tiz The Law will attempt to complete the second leg of the Triple Crown after winning the Belmont Stakes.
The Preakness Stakes now will be the final step in the quest. Having always been the second leg, the Preakness instead is scheduled to be run on Oct. 3.
