Stanford women's basketball coach Tara VanDerveer was inducted to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Monday morning.

VanDerveer, the 11th woman in the hall, will be inducted Aug. 12.

She told CSNBayArea.com contributor Ann Killion that she was honored but said, "I wish it hadn't come on this day...kind of a tough morning."

Stanford lost to Texas A&M Sunday in the Final Four.

Stanford has reached 10 Final Fours under VanDerveer, including the past four seasons. She led the Cardinal to national titles in 1990 and 1992.

VanDerveer starred at Indiana University in the 1970s, followed by a stint as a student volunteer at Ohio State.

Her head coaching career began at Idaho in 1978, followed by a successful run at Ohio State and then Stanford, where she arrived in 1985.
