ARLINGTON, Texas -- The As promotion of bullpen coach Ron Romanick to pitching coach was a no-brainer. That the As needed a new pitching coach remains a bit of a head scratcher.Curt Youngs decision not to return to the team for 2011 was a shocker even to the players. I spoke with Kurt Suzuki not long after the stunner, and he said he had no idea what prompted such a move. Its a shame for the great staff that Youngs been building the past couple of years. Theyve got a chance to be special next season, and they wont have Young to guide them through the inevitable rough patches.Thats why Romanicks hiring makes so much sense. He knows Brett Anderson, Trevor Cahill, Dallas Braden, Gio Gonzalez, Vin Mazzaro and Co. as well as Young, if not better. Hes been designing their throwing programs for years, dating to their minor-league days.Romanick represents continuity and comfort. Every young pitcher -- Youngs pitchers, reallyneed both to be their best.
