UFC Fight Night Sacramento: Aspen Ladd shakes as she makes weight

Cutting weight for a fight can be a complicated practice. The ugly side of it was seen Friday morning, one day before UFC Fight Night Sacramento.

Aspen Ladd, fighting as a bantamweight in the night's main event, had to be covered by a hoop during her weigh in. Once she reached the scale, Ladd appeared to be in plenty of pain as she grimaced with her body shaking.

In the end, she weighed exactly 135 pounds. Ladd continued to shake as she took down fluids after making weight and could barely flex her arms.

Ladd, 24, comes into her fight against Germaine de Randamie with an undefeated 8-0 MMA record, and 3-0 in UFC. But she's had trouble cutting weight in the past. Her UFC Fight Night 128 match against Leslie Smith was scrapped in April 2018 after Ladd came in heavy.

“Because of the Leslie Smith situation, she’s become a perfectionist," Ladd's manager Dave Hirschbein told ESPN's Ariel Helwani. “135 or bust is her thinking.”

Ladd could have used her one-pound allowance -- de Randamie weighed in at 136 -- but clearly, her past troubles with cutting weight was on Ladd's mind.

Dr. Gary Furness told ESPN's Marc Raimondi that Ladd was "not dangerously dehydrated" despite how bad she looked. He also used nerves as an excuse to why she was shaking.

Ladd doesn't appear to be in shape to watch a fight, let alone perform in a potential five-round bout.

Friday morning's scene was hard to watch. If Ladd doesn't look like herself Saturday night, plenty of questions should be raised.
