Tiger Woods has withdrawn from the 145th Open Championship, the R&A announced Friday.
Woods has not played competitively in nearly a year as he recovers from multiple back surgeries. This marks the third time he has withdrawn from the Open because of injury, and the first such instance since 2011. He won the event in 2000, 2005 and 2006 but missed the cut last year at St. Andrews.
The withdrawal means that Woods, who turned 40 in December, will miss three straight major championships for the first time in his professional career.
