1. Bochy Ball
That was a sweet moment when Bruce Bochy got to call on his son Brett to come into the game on Sunday and pitch an inning. It was a nice little farewell to spring training, but the Giants are home now to play the As (welcome back to exhibition season!) and theres no time for sentiment. Giants fans want two things: Matt Cain signed and Brandon Belt in the lineup. Will they get either?
2. Bridesmaids
Stanford coach Tara VanDerveers version of the movie isnt as funny as Kristin Wiigs. For the fifth straight year the Cardinal made it to the Final Four and came home without a national championship. This is the 20th anniversary of Stanfords last national championshipsince then the team has been to the Final Four eight times. No shame in losing to talented Baylor, but its a little embarrassing losing to a coachKim Mulkeywho appeared to be wearing a sixth-grade girls comforter.
3. Brittney Griner
Today may be Anthony Davis day, as the Kentucky player appears in his first and last national championship game. Tomorrow will belong to Griner, who tries to win her first national championship. Next year, 6-8 Griner will return to Baylor for her senior year at age 22, and after that will be lucky to maybe make a million bucks in endorsements and salary. Davis wont be returning to Kentucky, his first contract will likely be for 12 million and by the time hes 22 his great grandchildren will be set for life. So give Griner her moment in the spotlight.4. Alex Smith
The 49ers quarterback has had a rough spring, with his teams flirtation with Peyton Manning and signing of Josh Johnson. He hasnt retreated into his gated mansion to sulk. Last week he was out in Morgan Hill with other volunteers searching for missing teen Sierra LaMar -- people found out about it though Smith didnt do anything to publicize his involvement. Think about that next time you want to boo him.5. The Sharks
The playoffs come early for the Sharks, who have to play desperate elimination hockey all week, with two of the final three games coming on the road. Its a game of musical death chairs: four teams competing for three slots. The good news is the process has turned Ray Ratto into a YouTube sensation.
