Stanford fell to North Carolina in Game 2 of the NCAA Super Regional, 7-5, effectively ending the Cardinal season.

Starter Jordan Pries, who entered the game having allowed just one earned run in the last 23 innings, lasted only 3.1 innings surrendering three runs on six hits.

Cardinal closer, Chris Reed, entered the game in the 7th inning and allowed two unearned runs. Earlier this week, the Dodgers selected Reed with the 16th overall pick in the June MLB Draft.

Trailing 6-1 in the bottom of the 8th, Stanford came storming back with a bases-clearing double from freshman, Austin Wilson, to close the gap to 6-5. With runners on 1st and 2nd and only one out, senior catcher, Zach Jones, hit into an inning-ending 4-6-3 double play to end the rally.

With two outs and a runner on third in the top of the 9th, Mother Nature arrived prompting a 3 12 hour rain delay. When the game resumed, Reed walked Tommy Coyle and allowed an RBI single to Jacob Stallings, as North Carolina extended their lead to 7-5.

Tar Heels closer, Michael Morin, retired the Cardinal in order in the bottom of the 9th for his 10th save of the season.
