According to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle, the Giants "asked questions" about Oakland second baseman Mark Ellis this past weekend.

We'll have to assume that those "questions" centered around Ellis' availability via trade. The 34-year-old infielder is on the disabled list currently with a hamstring strain and has watched Jemile Weeks become a spark plug for the A's in his absence.

The report also indicated that San Francisco is continuing to pursue a trade at catcher, where Eli Whiteside has struggled offensively in the absence of Buster Posey.
