NBC SPORTS BAY AREA ANNOUNCES FIVE FINALISTS FOR “2018 ALL-STAR TEACHER AWARD”

2018 All-Star Teacher to Be Announced June 21, at On-Field Ceremony

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – April 9, 2018 – NBC Sports Bay Area (@NBCSAuthentic) announced today the five finalists for the 2018 All-Star Teacher Award, presented by Provident Credit Union (@ProvidentCU).  In its 11th year, the All-Star Teacher Award recognizes middle and high school teachers in Northern and Central California for their extraordinary dedication to their students in school and in the community.

The All-Star Teacher Award winner will be announced on Thursday, June 21 during an on-field ceremony prior to the San Francisco Giants/San Diego Padres game at AT&T Park and live during NBC Sports Bay Area’s telecast of Giants Pregame Live. For the eighth straight year, NBC Sports Bay Area has teamed with Provident Credit Union to award the winning teacher’s school $20,000, up from $10,000 in past years.

This year’s five finalists are: Craig Bryant of Albany High School (Albany), Jennifer Click of Edison High School (Fresno), Sergio Hernandez of Katherine R. Smith Elementary (San Jose), Michael Ruibal of Black Diamond Continuation High School (Pittsburg) and Cori Starr of Northgate High School (Walnut Creek)

Voting for your favorite among the finalists can be done online at http://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/ASTthrough Friday, June 1.  The website will feature biographies as well as short videos of the five finalists. In addition, the finalists will be featured in personal videos vignettes that will air on NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California, and they will be interviewed on select Giants Pregame Live and A’s Pregame Live shows.

The panel of judges consists of community leaders who will select the finalists based on four categories: Overall Commitment; Excellence in Teaching; Rapport with Students; and Level of Distinction.  This year’s elite panel of judges consists of Doug Bartlett, Senior Marketing Director, BART; Benito Delgado-Olson, Executive Director and Founder, K to College; John Haggarty, VP Marketing of Provident Credit Union;  Lorena Hernandez, Director of Community Investment, Comcast California; Detra Paige, Director of Community Relations, Oakland Athletics;  and Sue Petersen, Executive Director of the Giants Community Fund.
