Oakland boxer Andre Ward defeated Carl Froch to complete his undefeated run through the Super Six Tournament Saturday. After the fight, the nasty sight of his left was all the evidence you needed to know he earned it.
Thursday, Ward announced via Twitter that an MRI on that left hand revealed multiple fractures in the third and fifth metacarpal. The injured hand was put into a hard cast Thursday, which Ward will wear for the next two weeks. Once the cast is removed, Ward plans to rehab the hand and says he "should be fine."
Apparently, the injury occurred a week before the fight, although initial X-rays came back negative. Ward, though, knew something wasn't right. "I just knew it hurt like nobody's business," the Oakland boxer said on Twitter.

"We had to go with the fight," Ward continued on Twitter. "I knew I would further hurt my hand in the fight and I did in the sixth round. I bit down and continued to work, I had no choice."
Immediately following his victory, Ward said he "hit Froch on top of the head in the sixth round" and aggravated the hand injury.
Ward defeated Mikkel Kessler, Allan Green, Glen Johnson, Sakio Bika and finally Froch to reach the coveted status of the top 168-pound boxer in the world.
The win over Froch catapulted Ward through the CSNBayArea.com year-end awards, earning him a co-share of the pound-for-pound NorCal boxing crown.
