SANTA CLARA(AP)Mickey McConnell scored 25 points, Rob Jones had 10 points and a season-high 16 rebounds and Saint Mary's, Calif., overcame a long shooting slump in the second half to beat Santa Clara 65-59 on Thursday night.Mitchell Young added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Gaels, who made only one basket over the final 12:45 but made up for it by going 20-for-24 at the free throw line in the second half. That helped Saint Mary's (21-4, 9-1) stay in first place in the West Coast Conference and sets up a showdown Saturday at San Francisco. The surprising Dons are only 1 12 games back. Kevin Foster scored 25 points and broke his own school record of 85 3-pointers in a season by sinking four. Foster now has 87, but he couldn't get Santa Clara (15-11, 5-4 WCC) over the hump after the Broncos led by 10 early.
