The San Jose Mercury News reported that the recording of Greg Anderson and former Bonds associate Steve Hoskins can be used at the trial as government evidence against the former San Francisco Giants slugger and the single-season and all-time home run record-holder.

Hoskins reportedly claimed his reason for secretly recordingthe conversation in March 2003 was to convince Bonds' father that his son was taking steroids.

Bonds is accused of lying to a grand jury and hampering investigation of a steroid distribution ring. His trial is scheduled to begin March 21.

If convicted, Bonds would face a maximum of a 10-year sentence on each of five counts against him.
