Giants closer Brian Wilson on Tuesday will throw off a mound for the first time since leaving a game on March 17 against the Angels with a strained oblique muscle.
Manager Bruce Bochy, speaking to reporters before Monday's opener of a three-game Bay Bridge series against the A's, said Wilson will throw for "about 7-8 minutes" off a mound at the Giants' spring training complex in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Bochy stuck to his recent 5050 stance on whether Wilson will be on the Opening Day roster, but a Giants source told CSNBayArea.com that it's a virtual certainty Wilson starts the season on the DL.

The Giants can back-date DL moves up to 10 days, so if Wilson doesn't suffer any setbacks he could, in theory, miss only the four-game, season-opening series in Los Angeles.
Wilson threw off flat ground Monday and Bochy says he continues to throw pain free.
Wilson did not travel to the Bay Area with the Giants so he could continue his rehab in a more controlled environment with a more favorable climate.
News
Wilson started spring workouts behind the Giants' other relievers because of back tightness that kept him off the mound until his Cactus League debut on March 6, when he pitched a scoreless fifth inning against the Mariners.
For the spring, Wilson has appeared in five games and struck out five with a 1.80 ERA.
