The Giants have agreed on a one-year deal that makes free agent Miguel Tejada their everyday shortstop, a source close to Tejada told CSNBayArea.com.
The source said the Giants consider Tejada an everyday player capable of starting at shortstop, and that the team is done exploring other options, via trade or free agency, at the position.

Tejada, 36, previously told CSNBayArea.com that while he's most comfortable at shortstop, he's open to playing third base, which he began playing in 2010, and second base, a position he has never played in his major-league career.
The team has had talks with Tampa Bay about Jason Bartlett and Boston for Marco Scutaro in searching for Juan Uribe's replacement.

Tejada is expected to be a one-year stopgap while the Giants keep an eye on the development of 2008 fourth-round pick Brandon Crawford. The team considers Crawford ready defensively but wants to give him another year in the minor leagues to let his offensive game improve.

Tejada, who started his career with the A's, has a .287 average and 300 home runs in 14 big-league seasons. He hit .308 with 34 home runs 131 RBI in 2002 to win the A.L. MVP award.
