Giants announce LHP Surkamp to start Saturday

Aug. 26, 2011GIANTS PAGEGIANTS VIDEOCSNBayArea.com StaffEric Surkamp, one of the Giants' top pitching prospects, will make his Major League debut Saturday night at AT&T Park, the Giants announced Friday.The 24-year-old lefty has spent the season in Double-A but was scratched from his Friday night start, leading to speculation that his callup was imminent.Speaking to reporters before Friday's game with Houston, Giants manager Bruce Bochy indicated that Surkamp could be in line to make more than one start.
The Eastern League All-Star was the sixth-round pick for the Giants in 2008. This season he compiled a 10-4 record with a 2.02 ERA, best among pitchers in the Double-A Eastern League. He has 165 strikeouts in 41.1 innings this season.

Surkamp has one career shutout as a professional, a nine-inning, two-hitter for Class A San Jose on May 16, 2010.
