The UFC's biggest fight in years will have a Bay Area connection.
Khabib Nurmagomedov, a Russian fighter who trains in San Jose at the American Kickboxing Academy, will defend his lightweight championship against Conor McGregor, a former two-time belt holder who once dominated this division, at UFC 229 in Las Vegas. Known as "The Notorious," McGregor has talked a big game about reclaiming his belt, after a two-year UFC layoff that included a boxing bout with Floyd Mayweather. McGregor lost that fight by 10th-round TKO, but it made him a millionaire many times over and only increased his infamous bravado.
The jibber-jabbering between Nurmagomedov and McGregor started right after this fight was announced, and it certainly will not end in Thursday's pre-fight press conference. If you'd like to see the fireworks, watch Nurmagomedov and McGregor hurl insults at each other in the video player below, starting at 3 p.m. PT/6 p.m. ET.
