A's manager Bob Melvin was ejected in the top of the third inning Thursday.

Melvin was ejected from the dugout by third-base umpire Tim Tschida. It was his first ejection with the A's and the 20th of his career.
Before the ejection, Melvin had come out to argue about plays at first and second base.

The A's were leading the Royals 4-0 at the time. In the bottom of the inning, Hideki Matsui went deep for Oakland to make it 5-0. The homer was Matsui's 499th in his combined career in the U.S. and Japan.
The A's held on and won 8-4, earning their first back-to-back wins since late May.
