A's strength and conditioning coach Bob Alejo has left the club for another opportunity, according to an announcement by the club. Current minor league strength and conditioning coordinator Mike Henriques has been named as his interim replacement.
Alejo, who has accepted a job as the assistant director for strength and conditioning at North Carolina State University, was in his second stint with the club. He was the director of strength and conditioning from 1993-2001 and returned in the same capacity in 2009.
Henriques joined the Athletics in November 2010. He previously spent five seasons in the San Diego Padres minor league system (2006-10), including two years as their assistant coordinator. The Central Connecticut State graduate also served four off-seasons with the NBAs Portland Trail Blazers as assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2007-10.
He will join the team this week.
