Spartans cough up double-digit lead, fall to UNLV

LAS VEGAS -- Patrick McCaw scored 16 points, Ike Nwamu added 15 and UNLV rallied to beat San Jose State 64-61 on Wednesday night to end a three-game skid.

Trailing by 13 at halftime, McCaw scored five of 14 unanswered points and the Rebels rallied to within 53-50 on his free throw.

The Spartans replied with a 7-0 run, but UNLV pulled ahead 61-58 on Jerome Seagears' layup with 59 seconds left.

UNLV's Derrick Jones Jr. added a pair of free throws, then Ryan Welage hit a 3 to pull the Spartans within 63-61. Seagears hit a free throw for a 64-61 lead and San Jose State's Cody Schwartz missed a potential game-tying 3 at the buzzer.

Jones scored 14 with a career-high 18 rebounds and Seagears added 13 points for the Rebels (14-11, 5-7 Mountain West).

Brandon Clarke scored 15 points and had 14 boards for the Spartans (8-16, 3-9), Welage had 11 points and Frank Rogers grabbed 10 rebounds.
