Saint Mary's makes history with season sweep over Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Calvin Hermanson scored 12 with a pair of free throws that made it a five-point game with 12.8 seconds left and Saint Mary's swept the season series with Gonzaga in a 63-58 win on Saturday night.

The Gaels (22-4, 13-3) tied Gonzaga atop the West Coast Conference standings as they completed their first regular-season sweep of the Bulldogs (21-7, 13-3) since 1995. It gives Saint Mary's the first tiebreaker in the conference tournament seeding should it remain tied with Gonzaga at the end of the regular season.

Saint Mary's had a 10-3 run to lead 58-47 with 5:10 left. Joe Rahon stopped a 6-0 Gonzaga run with a floater that made it 60-53 at 1:23. Josh Perkins and Kyle Wiltjer scored to cut it to 61-58 before Hermanson iced it.

Evan Fitzner and Emmett Naar scored 13 and Joe Rahon added 10 for Saint Mary's.

Perkins had 21 points and Wiltjer and Eric McClellan added 13 for Gonzaga.
