Cal men's basketball coach Mike Montgomery has agreed to a two-year contract extension that will keep him with the Bears through the 2015-2016 season, the school announced today.
"Mike is a proven winner as a coach on the basketball court and as a mentor in developing our student-athletes here at Cal," Cal Athletic Director Sandy Barbour said. "His tremendous achievements speak for themselves. Mike epitomizes the mission, vision and values of our department and I am excited he will continue to lead our men's basketball program for the next four seasons."
In four seasons at the helm, Cal has finished in the top-four of the league standings every year, and has advanced to two NCAA Tournament appearances (2010, 2012).

In 2010, Jerome Randle took home Pac-10 Player of the Year honors, and the Bears won their first league title since 1960.
This past season, Jorge Gutierrez became the first player in league history to be named both conference player of the year and defensive player of the year in the same season.
Montgomery served as Montana's head coach for eight seasons before taking over at Stanford prior to the 1986-1987 campaign. In 18 years on The Farm, Montgomery's teams made 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, reached the 1998 Final Four, and won four Pac-10 titles ('99, '00, '01, '04).
He was a four-time Pac-10 Coach of the Year ('99, '00, '03, '04) and in 2000 was named Naismith Coach of the Year.
Following the 2003-2004 season, Montgomery spent two seasons as the head coach of the Golden State Warriors.
