Cal's Solomon to miss rest of season due to academics

Cal forward Richard Solomon will miss the remainder of the season after being declared academically ineligible, according to a report on Yahoo Sports.

The news was confirmed by Comcast SportsNet Bay Area contributing basketball analyst and Cal radio play-by-play announcer Roxy Bernstein.

The sophomore was averaging six points and six rebounds in just over 18 minutes per game.

Solomon was suspended for the Bears' game at San Diego State on Dec. 4 for a violation of team rules, and also missed four games from Dec. 19 to Dec 31. with a foot injury.

Just three games ago at Oregon he registered six points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks in just 17 minutes of action.

Freshman forward David Kravish, who has started in place of Solomon the past six games, is averaging 5.7 points, and 5.6 rebounds per game.

The Bears are tied for first place in the Pac-12 with Stanford at 5-1, and face a difficult road test at Washington (4-1) on Thursday night at 5:30 p.m.

Cal will then travel to Pullman to take on Washington State on Saturday before returning home to battle Stanford on Jan. 29.
