In the first episode of The Run, a new, all-access YouTube series following the Kings, the No. 4 overall pick made that very clear to general manager Monte McNair and head coach Mike Brown in their first phone call together.
"I'm excited. I'm ready to get to work," he said moments after being drafted. "It's time to win."

Heading into summer league, all eyes were on what Paolo Banchero, Chet Holmgren, and Jabari Smith Jr., the first three picks of the 2022 NBA Draft, respectively, would do. While those three were impressive in their own right, Murray took the spotlight.
At the conclusion of summer league, Murray was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2K23 NBA Summer League, averaging 23.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists with 1.3 steals. Murray proved why the Kings thought so highly of him after outperforming the three players selected in front of him.
