Webb excited for Warriors-Kings series, Giants clubhouse rivalry

There aren't many Kings fans more excited for Sacramento's first-round NBA playoff series against the Golden State Warriors than San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Logan Webb.

Originally from Rocklin, California, Webb grew up a diehard Kings fan and has been cheering on his hometown team all season long.

Webb spoke to Giants insider Alex Pavlovic prior to San Francisco's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday at Oracle Park about his excitement for the Kings' playoff run while admitting that a first-round matchup against Golden State is not ideal.

"Honestly, I'm just very excited to see the Kings back in the playoffs," Webb told Pavlovic. "I'm excited for Sacramento to have that back. I think we've waited a long time to see them back in the playoffs and I know that arena is going to be going crazy. I don't know if there's going to be a home-field advantage because it's such a quick drive. Just excited to see it.

"Maybe I didn't want to face the defending champs in the first round, but if you want to make it far you have to beat every team. So we'll see, I'm excited to watch it."

Game 1 of the series begins on Saturday at Golden 1 Center, one day after the Giants begin a six-game road trip through Detroit and Miami starting Friday. Fortunately for Webb, he believes he should be able to watch some of the games from his hotel room.

A pair of Webb's teammates also have a rooting interest in the series. Both shortstop Brandon Crawford and designated hitter Joc Pederson are Bay Area natives and active Warriors fans. The friendly rivalry should consume the Giants' clubhouse for the next week-plus.

"It's really just Craw and Joc. (They have) been talking a little smack," Webb added. "There's a couple of bets going on, so we'll see how that goes. I will be bringing my jersey on the road, I will wear that.

"It's tough because I do enjoy watching the Warriors play basketball, it's a pretty brand of basketball. Obviously, they've won four times, but I gotta stick with my team on this one. It's been a long time, I can't be changing anything."

How does Webb believe the series will play out? His prediction shouldn't surprise you.

"I gotta go Kings in seven. I think it's going to be a good series," Webb claims.
